Program Descriptions

COST MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (CMS)

CMS - The CMS program is recognized worldwide as the leading forum for development of advanced cost management methods. Current projects include: Enterprise-Wide ABM Implementation, Target Costing, Performance Measures, Process Management (including Service Processes), Capacity Management, Advanced Cost Management for Aerospace and Defense Contractors, and a Conceptual Design that integrates these topics. The CMS program is currently sponsoring the 1998 Target Costing Best Practice Study in conjunction with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the University of Akron.

NEXT GENERATION MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS (NGMS)
The NGMS (Next Generation Manufacturing Systems ) Program is an International Partnership formed to conduct pre-competitive research and development on manufacturing systems for the next generation enterprise. This international program has partners from Universities and industry representing Europe, Japan and the United States conducting collaborative research on Autonomous Distributed, Biological, Fractal, and Agile Manufacturing Systems to enhance the enterprise of the future. The Program is operating under the Terms of Reference of the International IMS initiative.

ROBUST QUALITY ENGINEERING
Launching in the U.S. in late 2003, the Robust Quality Engineering research project is designed to create a new set of management systems that will enable companies to realize the benefits of Robust Design as applied to Quality Engineering principles. The project aims to develop noise-resistant products, manufacturing and process flow decisions - robust in the sense that it is more resistant to noises and disturbances - and, as a result, may be used or operated with higher stability and reliably.

STANDARDS (STD)
Standards are vital to national and world economies. Recognizing the critical importance of industry standards, CAM-I has for 25 years taken an active role in the establishment of needed standards. Through member company representatives and staff participation, CAM-I is active in many national and international standards efforts. In the U.S., CAM-I is accredited by ANSI as a standards making organization.

EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD (EAB)
The vision of the EAB is to be the primary organization for educational change affecting the 21st century manufacturing enterprise. The EAB serves as an educational coordination and communication forum for the CAM-I business and technical community, identifies educational best practices from an industrial perspective, and provides a leadership role in systemic changes to the educational process.
