Problem Topic
CONST/POINT: Obtain extreme points

Problem Description
A method of obtaining extreme points of a feature is needed. Cannot obtain the point in a feature that is the extreme point relative to a given coordinate system axis. This would be useful in some datum setups.

Suggested Resolution
Add a new CONST/POINT to get these points. A suggested format is:

where dir designates the coordinate direction and can be:

XDIR, -XDIR, YDIR, -YDIR, ZDIR, or -ZDIR

Resolution

Warning!!

The following statement is only a resolution to a Standard Improvement Request (SIR) and is NOT part of the current DMIS standard, nor is it guaranteed to become part of the next revision of the DMIS standard even if voted and accepted by the DMIS National Standards Committee. This resolution is tentative because it may not be incorporated into the next version of the standard, it could be changed prior to the next release, or it could be changed as the result of the "public review and comment" period required for the next version of the standard. If you choose to use this tentative resolution, you do so at your own risk since at this time it is not part of the DMIS standard.

Resolved per 8/98 DNSC Meeting Oak Ridge, TN.

Add EXTREM option to CONST/POINT.
CONST/POINT,F(labell),EXTREM, var_5,FA(label2),var_6

See Attached File.

Notes

Added by Mike Holloway, hkm@ornl.gov on 7/30/1998

The meeting notes from Gaithersburg on 4/19/97 indicate that this SIR was returned to the enhancements subcommittee for review. Appendix K of these notes shows marked up pages showing a modification of CONST/POINT. The solution shown in these pages looks fine to me.
