Problem Topic
DISPLY: Interpretation
Problem Description
The DISPLAY/ statement seems to assume that there will be only one active
TERM, COMM, PRINT, and/or STOR devices at a given time. DEVICE/ appears to
support the concurrent definition of multiple such devices. How is the
correct DEVICE/ (of a particular kind) identified as the device to which
DISPLAY output will be directed (that is, how would the DME know to which
of five open TERM or COMM devices the associated DISPLAY/TERM or COMM
output should be directed)?

Resolution
Warning!!
The following statement is only a resolution to a Standard Improvement Request (SIR) and is NOT part of the current DMIS standard, nor is it guaranteed to become
part of the next revision of the DMIS standard even if voted and
accepted by the DMIS National Standards Committee. This resolution is
tentative because it may not be incorporated into the next version of
the standard, it could be changed prior to the next release, or it
could be changed as the result of the "public review and comment"
period required for the next version of the standard. If you choose
to use this tentative resolution, you do so at your own risk since at
this time it is not part of the DMIS standard.
Accepted per 9/97
Resolution: Added text and note to DISPLY and OPEN.
1) Modified DISPLY Function definition to: "Specifies the DME default device(s) to ..."
2) Changed DISPLY's OFF definition to: "signifies that output will not be sent to any DISPLY device."
3) Added to end of note for both DISPLY and OPEN: "There is no interaction between DISPLY devices and DID devices."
