Problem Topic
LITDEF: as applied to mulitple SNSLCT

Problem Description
The wording in LITDEF/ Note: "the association between the light and the sensor is provided with the SNSET statement" would imply that a VL() symbol is associated with a sensor, not a carriage (or machine). What is the meaning across multiple SNSLCT/ statements: does the sensor use the original VL() that was set (SNSET/) at the time the sensor was defined or the first time the sensor was selected, or does a new association get made between the sensor and the current VL(), with the old VL() lost? The broader implication of this is, are filters, lighting, windows, and algorithms part of a machine or carriage state, remaining active for all subsequent sensor operations until the state is explicitly changed using SNSET/? Or are they applicable to only a single sensor, being activated upon selection of that sensor via SNSLCT/, and becoming deactivated upon selection of a different sensor? [Implementation note: this determines associations between DmeAlgs, SensorVideoFilter, SensorVideoLight, and SensorVideoWindow objects and either Carriage or Sensor objects].

Resolution

Warning!!

The following statement is only a resolution to a Standard Improvement Request (SIR) and is NOT part of the current DMIS standard, nor is it guaranteed to become part of the next revision of the DMIS standard even if voted and accepted by the DMIS National Standards Committee. This resolution is tentative because it may not be incorporated into the next version of the standard, it could be changed prior to the next release, or it could be changed as the result of the "public review and comment" period required for the next version of the standard. If you choose to use this tentative resolution, you do so at your own risk since at this time it is not part of the DMIS standard.

Resolved per 8/98 DNSC Meeting Oak Ridge, TN.
Changed text in section 3.6.5.

Change to the standard: Page 21 section 3.6.5 add the following:
"The attributes selected by the SNSET statements executed for a given carriage apply to the currently selected sensor for that carriage."

Notes

Added by Mike Holloway, hkm@ornl.gov on 7/31/1998

I did not find any reference to this SIR in any meeting minutes.

A sensor is associated with a carriage. A SNSET is also associated with a carriage. It would follow that the attributes selected by the SNSET statements executed for a given carriage would apply to the currently selected sensor for that carriage. In other words, they apply to the carriage state.

Accept Mike's note as written.
