Problem Topic
DATSET: Z-origin clarification

Problem Description
Note: This is the fifth SIR relating to DATSET on pages 17 to 19 (section 3.5) - I thought four would do it, but I found two more. Last week I sent in four SIRs concerning DATSET on pages 113 and 114.

In section 3.5.8, it is not clear where the Z-origin is suppose to be. Is it at the Z-coordinate of the plane used to define DAT(A), or is it at the point where the line parallel to the Z-axis and passing through the point used to define DAT(C) intersects that plane?

Suggested Resolution
My preferred resolution is to rethink and rewrite DATSET.

To fix only this specific problem, add a sentence to section 3.5.8 explaining how to determine where the Z-origin is.

Resolution

Warning!!

The following statement is only a resolution to a Standard Improvement Request (SIR) and is NOT part of the current DMIS standard, nor is it guaranteed to become part of the next revision of the DMIS standard even if voted and accepted by the DMIS National Standards Committee. This resolution is tentative because it may not be incorporated into the next version of the standard, it could be changed prior to the next release, or it could be changed as the result of the "public review and comment" period required for the next version of the standard. If you choose to use this tentative resolution, you do so at your own risk since at this time it is not part of the DMIS standard.

Resolved per 9/98 DNSC Meeting Seattle, WA.

No Change to Standard.
